In Caren’s Words -
I started AT YOUR BARK AND CALL in Asheville, North Carolina in June, 1999. At this point I have more years of professional experience working with animals than I dare count. I started working in animal shelters in 10th grade. There was no way to keep me from bringing animals in that needed to be cared for - whether an injured bird or squirrel, or a stray puppy. I went to college, and then grad school - but never managed to work long in the fields I studied. I kept returning to caring for animals - as a vet assistant/tech, shelter worker, animal welfare officer ( the most heartbreaking and rewarding work one could ever imagine - I worked in CA, WI, NM, and here in Buncombe County.) At this time I am following my dream of working as a photographer. Naturally, my subjects are my noble friends - thus Noble Friends Photography! I donate much of my time to photographing for Asheville Humane Society and Hope for Horses.
I share my home with Caldonia, a 12 year old smooth Collie type dog - a mix of sensible, independent, and loyal. She is gentle, quiet and easy going and gets along with everyone in a most delightful way. She has always been partial to small dogs. ShinYuu (best friend in Japanese) - is a bright and bewitching seven year old scamp Domestic Long Haired cat who keeps us on our toes. She really does rule the roost. Pixel! is a 15lb. (ok, probably closer to 19lbs...) Schnauzer/Poodle mix, a Shnoodle, and was sort of an accident - I didn't even know I was looking for a second dog - but she is irresistible, and I am so so so glad I didn't second guess myself (too much)! OH, and BORIS! Our newest addition - a 16 year old Potbelly Pig! Sort of another accident. Since moving to the country, I expect there will be a few more of these happy accidents...
